WRAP UP
THE
VIADUCT - A NEW FOCUS, ZURICH'S MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE, SWITZERLAND, 1997.
this
bridge in the heart of zurich is to be shut down in the year 2000. because
of its relevance to town-planning, its constructional esthetic, the financial
crisis of the the town and the annual costs for maintenance, it finds
itself in a visionary vacuum
the project
is based on the idea of directing private and public interests into a
new urban crystallisation point and to achieve a cultural coherence of
location and utilisation. the wrapping up of the viaduct by a glass-steel
construction allows following private-public synergies:
privatisation
/ new utilisation / financing / preservation / connection
it solves
the old question of the quarters and neighbourhoods on the two sides of
the river by giving them a focus. it creates a sunbathing melting point,
outside the town buildings, above the river and within zurich. |
